Metropolitan Planning Commission

The City of Beaufort - Town of Port Royal Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) is a six-member board. Two of the members are appointed by the City of Beaufort Council; two members are appointed by the Town of Port Royal Council; and two members are appointed by the Beaufort County Council.  The MPC has the following powers and duties for the Town of Port Royal:

  • Prepare and periodically revise the comprehensive plan
  • Review and make recommendations on public projects
  • Review and make recommendations to the Town Council in regard to amendments to the text of The Port Royal Code
  • Review and make recommendations to the Town Council in regard to amendments to the Official Zoning Map
  • Review and approve preliminary subdivisions plats for Major Subdivisions.
  • Review and make recommendations concerning all annexations.

Term Limit

The MPC members are volunteers appointed by the Port Royal Town Council and serve a two (2) year term which expires on December 31st of the applicable year.
